Job Description

Additional Information: This hotel is owned and operated by an independent franchisee, YTL Hotels & Properties (Manager Europe). The franchisee is a separate company and a separate employer from Marriott International, Inc.  The franchisee solely controls all aspects of the hotel’s employment policies and practices, including hiring, firing, discipline, staffing, compensation, benefits, and all other terms and conditions of employment.  If you accept a position at this hotel, you will be employed by a franchisee and not by Marriott International, Inc.

 

What does the role involve?
 
At The Hague Marriott, we believe that great hospitality starts behind the scenes. As Financial Controller, you play a key role in the financial foundation of our hotel. You ensure that our financial administration is accurate and up to date, that management and ownership have the right insights, and that we can make informed strategic decisions based on reliable financial information.
With 306 rooms, 24 meeting rooms and multiple F&B outlets, The Hague Marriott is a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. As Financial Controller, you will be part of the Hotel Management Team and work closely with the General Manager, management team, ownership and external partners.
 
The The Hague Marriott,is part of YTL Hotels, an international luxury hospitality group with a diverse portfolio of hotels and resorts. In this role, you will report directly to the General Manager of The Hague Marriott and have a reporting line to the Finance Director Europe, YTL Hotels & Properties, ensuring strong alignment between hotel operations, financial performance and the wider YTL organization.
 
You combine strong financial expertise with a proactive and advisory approach. You keep an overview, identify opportunities and risks, and ensure that our financial processes and results are continuously monitored and optimized.
 
As part of the Hotel Management Team, you will also be a member of the Duty Management Team. This means that, in addition to your financial responsibilities, you will occasionally take on a duty management shift, including weekend duty, ensuring that the hotel is well managed and supported outside regular office hours.
 
What will you do?
  • You are responsible for managing, controlling and overseeing the hotel’s financial administration.
  • You ensure that the financial records are accurate, complete and up to date, providing a clear overview of the hotel’s financial position.
  • You prepare periodic financial reports, annual figures, P&L statements and balance sheets.
  • You analyze financial results, identify variances and translate your findings into clear insights and recommendations for management and ownership.
  • You prepare management reports, forecasts and budgets and discuss the results with relevant stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • You are responsible for cash management and cash forecasting.
  • You manage and optimize the administrative organization and internal control processes.
  • You create awareness around financial risks and contribute to a strong risk management culture within the organization.
  • You manage the hotel’s insurance portfolio.
  • You oversee project accounting and CAPEX-related activities.
  • You prepare periodic tax returns and reports to relevant authorities, including CBS and the Chamber of Commerce.
  • You monitor all applicable taxes and ensure that they are correctly calculated, recorded and paid on time.
  • You manage and control general ledger accounts and ensure that any discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • You work closely with the General Manager, management team, ownership, accountants and other external partners.
  • You act as a key point of contact for financial matters and proactively advise management and ownership on financial and strategic topics.
  • You stay up to date with developments in finance, taxation and relevant legislation and translate these developments into practical actions where appropriate.
  • You contribute to achieving and exceeding financial, budgetary and team objectives.

 

What are we looking for?
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance & Accounting, Business Economics or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a financial role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a hotel environment.
  • A genuine passion for finance and a drive to continuously improve financial processes and performance.
  • Experience with SunSystems Cloud is an advantage, but not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with relevant financial systems is a plus.
  • A strong eye for detail and a high level of accuracy when working with figures, reports and financial information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain structure and overview in a dynamic environment.
  • The ability to work independently, think analytically and confidently provide professional advice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate effectively.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions based on the best business interests.
  • A professional and discreet approach when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • A proactive, positive and results-oriented mindset.
  • A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work effectively as part of an international Hotel Management Team.
  • Excellent command of both Dutch and English.
