Job Description

We are currently looking for a Commissioning Instrumentation Supervisor in the framework of the pre-commissioning and commissioning of a large-scale hydrogen production facility in the Netherlands.

The assignment consists in leading all instrumentation-related pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on site, including instrument calibration, actuator testing, loop checks and support to the commissioning of associated equipment.

The position is site-based in the Netherlands, with occasional short business trips within Europe.

On a daily basis, the Commissioning Instrumentation Specialist will report directly to the Commissioning Manager and work closely with the DCS, E&I, process and site commissioning teams.

The main duties are the following:

  • Lead all instrumentation-related pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on site.
  • Perform and supervise the calibration of field instrumentation, including pressure, temperature and other process instruments.
  • Perform the initialization, testing and calibration of actuators and control valves.
  • Execute and coordinate loop checks between field instrumentation, control systems and associated equipment.
  • Support the pre-commissioning and commissioning of rotating equipment from an instrumentation and control perspective.
  • Verify instrument installation and configuration against approved project documentation and technical specifications.
  • Identify discrepancies during testing and coordinate the implementation of corrective actions with the relevant engineering and site teams.
  • Read and interpret E&I documentation, including logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and instrumentation hook-ups.
  • Read and interpret relevant process and piping documentation, including P&IDs, isometrics and associated technical documents.
  • Support pre-commissioning activities such as P&ID checks, blowing, flushing and inerting when instrumentation interfaces are involved.
  • Coordinate closely with the DCS team during loop testing, functional checks and control system integration.
  • Support the commissioning of electrical shelters and associated E&I equipment when required.
  • Ensure that all instrumentation checks and commissioning activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures, project requirements and applicable quality standards.
  • Complete and maintain all quality and commissioning documentation related to on-site instrumentation checks and tests.
  • Monitor progress of instrumentation activities and provide clear reporting on completed works, outstanding issues and required actions.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of commissioning activities.
  • Work autonomously while maintaining effective cooperation with the wider site and commissioning teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of proven hands-on experience in electrical commissioning within complex industrial power systems.
  • Expert-level experience in commissioning of HV and MV systems.
  • Strong experience in the commissioning of HV GIS switchgear, MV switchgear, power transformers, protection systems and distribution networks.
  • Good experience with power conversion systems, rectifiers, reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering.
  • Proven experience in electrical pre-commissioning, energization and functional testing.
  • Good knowledge of grid connection requirements, protection systems and relay coordination.
  • Experience in commissioning of electrical shelters and electrical equipment.
  • Good knowledge of E&I documentation, including logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and instrumentation hook-ups.
  • Ability to read and interpret relevant process and piping documentation would be an advantage.
  • Experience in commissioning management, contractor supervision and field coordination.
  • Strong autonomy, leadership, teamwork and reporting skills.
  • Good command of standard digital and office tools.
  • Fluent English is mandatory.
  • Availability for a full-time, site-based assignment in the Netherlands.
  • The candidate must hold or be able to obtain the required site safety and electrical authorisations applicable to the assignment.

Benefits

  • Good experience in E&I commissioning.
  • Good knowledge of DCS systems.
  • Experience with Yokogawa systems is required.
  • Good knowledge of commissioning management and site coordination.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret E&I documentation, including logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and instrumentation hook-ups.
  • Good ability to read and interpret process and piping documentation, including P&IDs and isometrics.
